COCTEAU Jean (1889-1963)
Novelist, painter, filmmaker… Cocteau was a complete artist. In 1957, his meeting with Marie-Madeleine Jolly and Philippe Madeline opened the door to ceramics for him. In 1958, he exhibited in their workshop in Villefranche-sur-Mer. Until his death, more than 300 works were created there. On the vases, plates, and other pottery emerge lyre-like women, angels, and harlequins inspired by Greek mythology and a fairy-tale world, through which his poetic genius is expressed.
