Accolay (Yonne, France)
The potters of Accolay or the story of a beautiful community adventure started in 1944 by a group of four friends, all students of Alexandre Kostanda. A first bell kiln allowed the manufacture of jewelry and ceramic buttons. In 1945, Christian Dior ordered 300 for his “New Look” collection. It was the beginning of a success story that ended in 1983. For more than 20 years, a type of pottery flourished in Accolay, combining the diversity of objects - masks, jewelry, toys, etc. - and that of materials - ceramic, glass, plant fibers, etc. - and combining aesthetics with “Zazou” humor.
