Jacques (1926-2008) and Dani Ruelland (1933-2010)
Jacques Ruelland graduated from the École des Beaux Arts in Paris in the late 1940s. In 1950, with Danielle, his wife, he stopped off in Vallauris, which confirmed their desire to work with ceramics. They began their profession by improvising as ceramists in a cellar in Versailles, then set up in a workshop located on rue de Buci. The Ruelland couple trained in ceramics, Ruelland worked with terracotta, drawing inspiration from other arts such as painting but also theater. Between the 50s and the end of the 70s, Jacques and Danielle made a number of ceramic models, pitchers, bowls, goblets, vases, creating the decor of the shapes she imagined. We find in their creations many bright colors, yellow, orange, ocean blue, coral red, bright green or even black. In 1970, the couple settled in the south of France in the commune of Angles, definitively abandoning Paris, which did not prevent them from experimenting with new ceramic processes and making this material known around them.
