Jean-Paul Emonds-Alt (1928-2014)
Designer, sculptor and painter, Jean-Paul Emonds-Alt studied sculpture at the National School Superior of Architecture and Decorative Arts in Brussels, in the studio of Oscar Jespers, of which he then became the assistant. Nine months of travel through the Congo in 1957 left a lasting mark on his work as a sculptor. Following this stay, he designed a monumental sculpture for the pavilion of the Syndicat Congo Mines at the 1958 Universal Exhibition in Brussels. From 1964 he devoted himself mainly to design, focusing on the problems of the shape of industrial products and the environment. Several times awarded for his achievements, he is notably the author of the “M” of the Brussels metro (1980).
