About...

Jean MAYODON (1893-1967)

Born at Sèvres, where he lives and works in his personal workshop almost all his life, Mayodon is named, from 1934 till 1939, artistic adviser to the Factory of Sèvres, then art director in 1941/1942. During this period, he creates for the Factory more than eighty shapes of vase. If he leaves the earthenware for the china, he remains faithful in decorations to his main source of inspiration: the antique taste. The personal production of Mayodon also includes large-sized works: fountains, sculptures, ornamental panels intended for private houses, official buildings or for liners. He is one of the greatest ceramists of his time.
