Rörstrand Porcelain Rörstrand has been documented since the 13th century. After the acquisition of Marieberg in 1785, Rörstrand was the only large Swedish porcelain factory and technology was not a priority. It was only after the foundation of Gustafsberg in 1825 that the mass production of terracotta dishes took off. In the 1860s, Rörstrand porcelain was one of the largest industries in the country. Between 1960 and 1990, Rörstrand passed through several owners. Since 2001, Rörstrand has been part of Iittala, which, because of losses, has transferred its production to Sri Lanka and Hungary. At the end of 2005, the Lidköping factory closed down, ending a nearly 280-year-old Swedish industrial history.
